Echo of a Raindrop - From Within the Cave

Thanks to the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO) Young Composers Symposium 2023-24 directed by Eric Malmquist. Also, many thanks to the CYSO Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Kenny Lee for the opportunity to write, develop, and hear my composition in a live reading.

Frozen Velvet - Lost but not Forgotten

Frozen Velvet debuted Dec 3, 2023. It is a string quartet that tells the story of a glove lost in the wintertime, but still remembered by its owner. I wrote this in my second year of CYSO’s Composition Symposium.

Calico - And Whispers at Night

In October 2023, I created Calico to use as a channel banner for YouTube (and for the banner at the top of this page). Originally this piece was only going to be a flute and oboe duet, but I eventually realized that it needed something more and added bassoon to make it a trio. This piece was inspired by a track from a video game I played. You can take a listen here. Possibly in the future I could persuade some friends from orchestra to record it with me.

Spring Swing Boogie

I really liked the end-credits that I scored for Outdrawn, so I extracted just the last minute of the score and made it a stand-alone piece that could be performed. This won first place in the 2023 August Jazz, Boogie, and Rag Competition through IYMC. They provided excellent feedback and an opportunity to resubmit. Based on their feedback, I made some revisions and cleaned up notation.

Violet Forest - A Color not Seen

My first orchestral piece!

This is the second work I created using MuseScore during my participation in CYSO's Composition Symposium (2022-23). It was played by the CYSO Philharmonic Orchestra May 5, 2023. In the fall, a small group of musicians from my school district rehearsed and recorded it with the help from VJA music director Mark Iwinski.

Sweet Lemon - Best Tasted on its Own

Sweet Lemon, (originally entitled Gypsy Leaf) is my first ever notated composition, and is a Wind Quintet. I created this with MuseScore while participating in 2022-23 CYSO's Composition Symposium, a nine-month program directed by Dr. Eric Malmquist. This piece was performed by the 5th Wave Collective in Dec 4, 2022.
